PCT allocations within this SHA

  1. This table shows unified allocations to Primary Care Trusts (PCT) within this SHA. Unified Allocations to PCTs are informed by a formula known as the weighted capitation formula.
  2. The formula is used to determine PCTs’ target shares of available resources to enable them to commission similar levels of healthcare for populations with a similar healthcare need.
  3. In December 2002, the Department of Health made unified allocations, totalling £148 billion, to PCTs to cover the three financial years 2003-04, 2004-05 and 2005-06. These allocations covered Hospital and Community Health Services (HCHS), prescribing (the drugs bill), HIV/AIDS, and GP infrastructure (covering practice staff, premises and IT).
  4. The first column in the table shows the sum of the actual allocations to all PCTs within the SHA in the financial year given rounded to £0.1million. Please note that this is not an allocation of revenue to the SHA.
  5. The second column shows the increase in real terms from the previous financial year. This means the increase once inflation has been taken into account – see point 7 below.
  6. The third column shows the increase in cash terms from the previous financial year – see point 7 below.
  7. For 2002/03 and 2003/04, the cash and real terms increases are not the change over the previous year’s unified allocation. This is because at the start of each allocation round the previous year’s unified allocation is adjusted for subsequent in-year changes. This gives a baseline upon which increases can be calculated on a consistent basis.
